Electronic Magazine – June 2014, V13#6: Computer Monday, Jun 2 2014

American Writers today have no excuse for not being “online”: This may sound harsh for those not there yet, but true. While many things can have a steep learning curve, basic usage of today’s technology shouldn’t be viewed as an insurmountable skill set. The rewards far outweigh the cost in time, patience, and added “utility bills”. It is part of the cost of doing business in the 21st century. Don’t want to invest in hardware of your own? Head somewhere with public access computers, such as a library or internet cafe, and ask for assistance. Whether you choose a free email account, or use social networking as the extent of your online empire, it is something that today’s readers have come to expect from living authors.

Beyond the printed book

Online publishing services can be to a website that space is provided free of charge, and not further cost is involved – other than initial set up. Services can also be applied to blog or social networking mediums, as well as dedicated eBook services such as Smashwords. For an “for profit” author, or individual book, it is always suggested a unique domain be purchased for continual (reoccurring fees) use, in addition to blog and social networking. Gregath is happy to provide support and tutoring if one wishes to learn how to do further updates and changes independently.
