Design Inspiration

When designing mailing tools, consider the number your are mailing at one time as well as the number of times you may mail over the next year. Utilizing a permit imprint saves you time placing stamps on each item as well as saving money. There are several things you can do with an imprint that will have to be added to your camera ready layout. *******

In addition to retail postage (stamps), if you are mailing more than 200 at one time, Gregath can get you a marketing discount and you can skip the stamps. If mailing more than 500 at one time, first class mail imprint (no stamps) may be an economical option.

For your information – in case you hadn’t noticed yet: USPS has renamed their business class mail rate again. Add standard mail rate to history along with third class, second class, and bulk mail. For business imprint, Standard Mail is still current, with USPS instructing the change to Marketing mail in the future.

As we all continue to look at getting newer operating systems (OS), like Windows 10, keep in mind that not all of your old programs may work on the new OS – even anti-virus subscriptions.

Are you a RootsMagic user? Want to upgrade to Windows 10? No need to worry, there just may be some more upgrades in store. Please see below directly from RootsMagic:

While RootsMagic works great under Windows 10, apparently Microsoft snuck in a last-minute change that didn’t exist in earlier test versions and prevents the internal WebSearch from working, certain text appearing on some screens, and backing up to Dropbox and Google Drive.

If you are running RootsMagic 7 for Windows – Look for the “Update Available” indicator in the lower right corner of your RootsMagic 7 program screen, and click on it.

If you are running RootsMagic 4, 5, or 6

1. Download the .REG file from files.rootsmagic.com/RootsMagic-Win10-Browser-Fix.reg

  1. Run the .REG file to add the necessary entries to your Windows registry. It will display several scary warnings. Just keep telling it that “yes”, you do want to make the change.  This registry fix is only needed if you are running RootsMagic 4, 5, or 6 under Windows 10.

With pre-publication sales, consider offering, in addition to the pre-publication payment discount, something special about those paid books.  It could be author signed, numbered, include a color photo page, color divider pages, custom frontice piece, or an improved binding for an extra charge.  If the publishing project is for softbound books, offer a hardbound collectors edition price in addition to the regular discount softbound edition.  If going the hardbound/softbound marketing route, don’t forget to market to your libraries, especially if you are able to offer the hardbound edition for not much more than the standard retail for the softbound edition will be.
