December 2011 E-Zine (V10#12): Define Wednesday, Nov 30 2011

Writer’s Lingo:
Crop marks: lines indicating what part of the photograph to print. These are commonly placed directly on the face of the photograph with grease pencil (which will easily rub off later). Our company charges extra if many photos are submitted this way.
*Dead copy: Any previous drafts or copies that have been discarded once proof read and any changes have been completed. All drafts should be dated (easiest), marked or coded so the writer can be sure of working on the “current” and be able to see their progress in the older ones.
Terms marked with an asterisk (*) are not generally used in our office.

Free or nearly so:

Make your own coupons! These can be done in a variety of formats (flyers, brochures, book marks, business or post cards, etc.). Be sure to include all your contact information, the item in question, and something extra for the bearer. Coupons can be for a particular amount or % off, free or reduced shipping, an autographed copy, a mystery bonus (some imprinted advertising specialty), etc. The sky is the limit. Give the coupons out in person, leave them on freebie tables, tack them to bulletin boards, include them in correspondence, etc. Don’t forget to consider terms such as an expiration date and if the coupon needs to be surrendered.

March 2005, V4#3: Define Wednesday, Jan 28 2009

Acid Free Books: The use of this term varies from the logical definition of the individual words to a wide variety of standards – always have a company explain their definition.  An acid free book depend on internal (book materials) and external factors (chemical processes, environment, etc.).  Because of varying factors, we do not use this term, see archival webpage for more information.
