The same people claiming direct mail doesn’t net enough return also claim print is dead. Don’t discount direct mailing for promotion. Some content ideas include:

  • Offer free information that is of service to buyers (tips, tricks, hacks, advice, etc.)
  • Invite them personally to an event or to take advantage of your services
  • Further promotion: think of things you can do for your customers!

The Online Catalog for the California State Archives

Online access to summary descriptions of the vast documentary treasures maintained by the California State Archives. A division of the Office of the Secretary of State, the California State Archives is responsible for the management and preservation of state government records. Within the more than 300 million items in its collections are documents from the state’s first constitutional convention in 1849, land grant records of the Spanish and Mexican eras, campaign contribution statements, State Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal case files, legislative committee files, original laws, papers of many of the state’s leading politicians, and large collections of photographs, maps, drawings, and audio/visual materials.

Currently in a handy search box at the top of the page, it searches previous versions of a lot of the internet. It’s not comprehensive, but is a user friendly way to “recover” material that has gone “missing.

*Double Wire Binding: Soft type of binding where spine of book consists of double wire loops threaded through holes in book block. This method is more durable then spiral binding. See Coil/Spiral Binding

Drop Ship (marketing): Within 48 hours of receiving an order, it is forwarded to the Copyright holder, author, publisher, etc. (usually by postal system). That person maintains all book inventory and controls shipment. After they receive the order, they fill/ship it within 10 days. Friendly reminder, from USPS supplied information, on those Christmas shipping dates: Once you’ve made your purchase and had it wrapped and packaged for shipping (or allowed your retailer time to process the order), the dates below are the last dates suggested to ship for Christmas delivery –

Sending somewhere in the United States? Get it in the mail by December 22 if you are sending Express (overnight) mail, or December 21 for Priority.

Sending outside the US? Deadlines begin December 3 for Priority, go through December 11 for Express, and finalize December 17 for Global Express Guaranteed.

Don’t forget to buy some forever stamps in 2012 – they will be worth an extra penny in by February, 2013. Christmas forever stamps from this year will still be good for future holidays!

Don’t forget to ask for family data updates in your end of year holiday mailings. So many of us put off adding family information to our working files because it can be done later. Sometimes this turns into loosing information. Remember to include your new family data in these mailings as well. This can be done as a separate sheet that can be easily discarded for those non-genealogy oriented family members.
